Choosing the right cemetery management software is an important decision, especially when you’re thinking about long-term record keeping, ease of use, and continuity for future generations. Below are some of the most common questions cemeteries ask when evaluating a platform like Cemify.

Common Questions

Is the software cloud-based?

Cemify is a cloud-based platform, which means you can access it from any device with an internet connection. No servers or special installations are required.

Where is our data stored and backed up?

Your data is securely stored using cloud infrastructure (AWS) and backed up regularly. You also maintain ownership of your data. You will receive back-ups of the data, generally quarterly, which can be downloaded to your computer or an external drive.

What do we need to run the software?

All you need is a web browser and internet connection. There are no special hardware requirements, and it works on both Mac and PC.

How easy is it to use?

Ease of use is a major focus. The system is designed so staff, volunteers, and future administrators can quickly learn and use it. Extensive training is not necessary, but we can address your needs as they arise.

Can multiple people use the system?

A standard setup includes multiple user logins, and administrators can control access levels for each user (view-only, edit, admin, etc.). Multiple people can access the system at the same time with no problem.

Can we manage multiple cemeteries in one system?

Cemify allows you to manage multiple cemeteries within one platform, with the ability to toggle between locations and maintain consistency across sites. Visitors to the public portal can also search across all cemeteries. This can be done through our Organizational-Level Public Site.

Can we search for graves and records easily?

Cemify includes robust search functionality, allowing you to search by burial, plot, or owner, making it much easier to locate records quickly.

Can we attach documents and images to records?

You can upload and attach documents (PDFs, images, etc.) to specific graves, plots, or records, creating a complete digital file for each burial.  You can also determine if those will be public facing (like obituaries and photos of headstones) or not (like burial permits).

How does mapping work?

Cemify creates digital maps using aerial imagery (such as drone photos that you provide or satellite imagery) and your existing maps. These maps are then connected directly to your records, allowing you to visually locate graves and track availability.

Can we start without mapping?

Many cemeteries begin with a records-only setup to keep costs low and add mapping later as needed.

Is there a public website for families?

Cemify includes a public portal where families can search for loved ones, view grave locations, and access information. This is hosted and maintained as part of the subscription.  We will provide a QR code and materials to support this. An app or user log-in is not required.

Can we control what information is visible to the public?

You can choose what information is displayed on the public site, giving you control over privacy and visibility.

What kind of reports can we generate?

There are standard reports to get you started. You can export reports in formats like Excel or CSV, and custom reports can be created to meet your needs.

Is training and support included?

Yes. Training is included, along with ongoing support from the Cemify team to help answer questions and guide you through the process.

What does it cost?

The honest answer is that it depends on the materials you already have and how much of the implementation work you'd like Cemify to handle. We take a very thoughtful approach to pricing and consider the unique needs of each cemetery we work with.

While every cemetery receives the same software platform, no two cemeteries have the same records, maps, or historical documentation. Some organizations have clean digital files that are ready to import. Others are working from decades-old paper maps, handwritten burial books, or records spread across multiple systems.

How long does implementation take?

Most implementations take approximately 3–4 months, depending on the complexity of your data and materials.

What happens if we stop using the software?

You can export your data at any time. However, the connected system, where maps, records, and documents are integrated, would no longer be accessible, and the data would exist as separate files.

Final Thought and What Sets Cemify Apart

The right software should not only solve today’s challenges. It should create a system that is easy to use and maintain, scalable over time, and accessible to future staff and volunteers.

By centralizing records, simplifying workflows, and preserving knowledge, cemeteries can move from uncertainty to confidence in how they manage and protect their data.

We value the relationships we build and are committed to providing exceptional service and personalized support every step of the way.  We look forward to talking with you to determine if we are the right fit for you and are thankful for the opportunity to potentially work with you.
